High Tech at Northwood Dental

We use the latest technology to provide quality work, to give a comfortable experience, and to reduce the amount of time spent in the chair.

DEXIS Digitial Diagnostic Imaging

Dexis digital radiology uses an X-ray sensor as opposed to the traditional photographic film. This allows patients’ X-ray images to be saved as a digital file and available for viewing instantaneously.

Its high performance technology that's environmentally friendly (no more film or chemicals), reduces exposure to radiation and allows more chair side time with our patients.

Advantages include time efficiency through bypassing chemical processing and the ability to digitally transfer and enhance images.

Patient Benefits

  • Reduced exposure to radiation
  • More comfortable than traditional X-rays
  • Less waiting time
  • Shorter appointments
  • Involved in co-diagnosis
  • Better understanding of treatment

AMD Lasers

A new addition to the Northwood Dental family is the revolutionary line of Picasso dental lasers designed by AMD lasers.

This high technology device generates a beam of concentrated light for exact precision during procedures. The new technology also offers reduction in patient discomfort.

Invisalign® Clear Braces

What is Invisalign?

Invisalign treatment consists of a series of invisible medical-grade polymer (plastic) aligners that you switch out about every two weeks. Dr. Hagan customizes the Invisalign system for your teeth and each aligner is individually manufactured with exact calculations to gradually shift your teeth into place.

DIAGNOdent Early Detection of Tooth Decay

The traditional way to see if there is a decay in the biting surface that might not be detected in x-rays is with a metal stick. If the probe sticks, then there is a cavity. Using the DIAGNOdent laser, we can detect early decay.

The DIAGNOdent is a pen-like probe that sends a safe, painless laser beam into the tooth and checks its health. A number scale and an alarm will signal when there are signs of hidden decay. This allows us to determine if decay is lurking beneath the apparently healthy tooth surface.

This technology allows us to catch tooth decay at an earlier stage before the tooth is destroyed from the inside out and helps prevent more extensive procedures.

Air-Abrasion Drill-less Dentistry

Often we can treat a small new filling with no shots or drill.

An instrument that works like a mini sandblaster is used to spray away decay. During air abrasion, a fine stream of particles is aimed at the decayed portion of the tooth. Small particles of decay on the tooth surface are removed as the stream of particles strikes them. The particles of decay are then suctioned away.

Advantages

  • Air abrasion generates no heat, sound, pressure or vibration.
  • Air abrasion reduces the need for anesthesia, particularly if the cavity is shallow.
  • Air abrasion leaves much more of the healthy tooth tissue behind.
  • Air abrasion reduces the risk of micro-fracturing and chipping of the tooth, which some experts believe can lead to premature restorative failures.
  • Air abrasion allows the dentist to treat multiple sites in the mouth during a single visit.
  • The procedure is relatively simple and quick.

Rotary Root Canals

We use motorized rotary files to perform root canals in one visit, often in less than an hour. Traditionally root canals are done using a hand file, a more lengthy process. Hand files have also the possibility of breaking inside the tooth.

Intraoral camera

Intraoral cameras are tiny digital cameras that fit comfortably in your mouth and enable your dentist to show you an enlarged image of your smile on a computer screen. The camera is located in the tip of the intraoral wand and transmits real-time video for you and the doctors to review. This allows you to see live images of your mouth. The video is saved on the computer and a hard copy can then be printed for your record or for procedure verification by your insurance company.

Panoramic X-Rays

The panoramic x-ray gives a broad overview of the entire mouth. It is also used for evaluating patients:

  • With past or present TMJ or jaw joint problems
  • Who require full or partial removable dentures, dental implants or braces
  • Who may have a tumor in the jaw
  • Who have impacted teeth (especially wisdom teeth) or have had any recent trauma to the face or teeth (e.g. can help identify a fractured jaw)
  • Who cannot tolerate other types of films (severe gaggers)
